The SZS is presenting six papers about accessibility at the International Conference on Computers Helping People with Special Needs (ICCHP) in Linz. Program
Mid October the SZS celebrated the 30-years birthday. The program presented former and present development and also future visions of the SZS. Report (in German only)
The SZS received a donation from Cognex in Karlsruhe to buy a 27-inch multi-touch display which can be attached to a computer. With this device students with low vision can work with a pen to annotate digital documents and magnify them easily. In december there will be as well a tactile embosser available. The SZS appreciates the generous donation.

The first step is done.....Paulcke-Platz and crossing the road (Engesserstrasse) towards AKK is now much safer than before due to the installation of a guidance system for the blind on the ground.

The research group of Prof. Stiefelhagen (head of SZS) receives a Google Research Award for its work on "A Mobility and Navigational Aid for Visually Impaired Persons". The "Google Faculty Research Award" is endowed with 83.000 USD for supporting research in computer science, engineering and related disciplines.
